Luke Thomas hasn’t played a minute of Championship football under Frank Lampard at Derby so could benefit from a spell in League One with Coventry.
Derby County did some fine business in the transfer window with the likes of Mason Mount, Martyn Waghorn and Jack Marriott arriving to turn Frank Lampard’s Rams into one of the pre-season promotion favourites.
But Derby deserve credit too for keeping one of their most promising starlets.
Luke Thomas stood out in Derby’s 2017/18 Premier League 2 campaign, scoring six goals for the reserves and even being handed his senior bow by Garry Rowett. Though the Gloucester Live cast doubt on his future when they claimed in June that he was closing in on a £1 million move to West Ham.
Thankfully for Derby fans, the former Cheltenham starlet remained and recently signed a four-year deal. And though he is set to leave before the end of August, supporters will be relieved to learn that it is only on a temporary basis.
Gloucester Live are claiming that Thomas is set to join League One Coventry City on loan until January to get some much needed senior football under his belt. The 19-year-old hasn’t featured in any of Lampard’s match-day squads so far so a move away could do him the world of good.
Thomas has made just two substitute appearances for Derby so far, both coming last season.
