Derby County are keen to sign Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Christian Walton in the summer transfer window, according to the Sun (18 February, page 61).

Walton has been playing Championship football for Wigan Athletic this season, having initially joined Paul Cook’s side on loan in the summer of 2017, and has established himself as one of the most impressive young shot-stoppers in England during his time in Lancashire.

The 23-year-old shone as Wigan won the League One title last season and also helped the Latics reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, making a terrific penalty save against Southampton along the way and keeping a clean sheet against Manchester City.

And, according to the Sun, Derby would be keen to bring him to Pride Park with manager Frank Lampard interested to sign a young goalkeeper to compete with the experienced Scott Carson.

It is understood that Brighton could be willing to send Walton out on loan again. But Derby are interested in signing the England U21 international on a permanent basis and could splash the cash to make a deal happen.
