Jason Shackell is one of a number of senior players Derby County boss Gary Rowett wants to leave, and Millwall could take him off the Rams’ hands.
Derby County manager Gary Rowett is hoping to trim the fat from his squad with just a week remaining in the January transfer window.
While there do not appear to have been any offers for Scotland international Anya just yet, compatriot Martin is a man in demand. As reported by the Chronicle, Sunderland have agreed a deal to sign the striker on loan but Championship rivals Wolves are hoping to muscle in on the deal.
And it appears that interest in Shackell is also hotting up ahead of next Wednesday’s deadline. The Sun (live blog) states that Millwall are in talks to sign the veteran centre-back with manager Neil Harris keen to strike a loan deal.
Shackell, who cost Derby £1 million when he arrived from Burnley in the summer of 2015, has lost his place in Rowett’s starting XI of late with Curtis Davies and Richard Keogh established as The Rams first-choice defensive partnership.
But the 34-year-old, who skippered Burnley to promotion back in the 2013/14 season, still has a lot to offer and could be a good addition to a Millwall side whose defence looked decidedly shaky in Saturday’s 4-3 win away at ten-man Leeds United.
