Dean Marney is about to leave Premier League club Burnley on a free and could drop down to the Championship with Nottingham Forest.

It has been clear for some time that Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Dean Marney.
The 34-year-old will leave Burnley this summer after eight years of loyal service at Turf Moor and the Lancashire Telegraph reported a few weeks ago that he has already met Forest manager Aitor Karanka to discuss a move to the City Ground.

It is understood that Marney is ready and willing to drop down to the Championship and is now set to hold further talks with Nottingham Forest, as Karanka aims to kick-start what will be a busy summer on the transfer front.

Marney would be another astute addition, adding experience in the centre of the park with long-serving Chris Cohen forced to retire due to injury and the Welsh international David Vaughan out of contract.
Signing the former Tottenham youngster Marney would still carry a degree of risk, however. He has not played a game since suffering a cruciate ligament injury all the way back in January 2017.
