Premier League side Everton and Super Lig club Beskitas could reportedly swap Davy Klaassen and Oguzhan Ozyakup this summer.
Everton fans might have wondered whether Davy Klaassen was set to be handed another chance at Goodison Park when new director of football Marcel Brands spoke glowingly about the Dutch international on Monday.
“I can only tell you something about him from when he played in Holland,” Brands, who worked at PSV when Klaassen was the captain of Ajax, told the Liverpool Echo.
“He was a very good player, a very clever player, a good goal-scorer, but last season there were a lot of players in his position so it was very difficult for him. In the end he didn’t play so much.
“What we will do this week is to take decisions on what player fits in our plans for the next situation. We have to be honest to every player, if they have prospects here or if they haven’t.”
Just two days later, however, it seems that Klaassen is closer than ever to leaving the Premier League just one year after he arrived for around £24 million.
According to Fanatik, Klaassen has given the green light to Besiktas as speculation over a potential move to Turkey intensifies. And it is understood that the Istanbul giants want Klaassen as part of a deal that would see Oguzhan Ozyakup move to Goodison Park.
Former Arsenal youngster Ozyakup, who has a release clause of £12 million, has been linked with Everton for a number of months. And an exchange deal could suit all parties, particularly with Klaassen himself admitting that he wants regular football after making just three league starts in 2017/18.
Everton, however, would reportedly prefer Klaassen to only leave on loan, so there is still some talking to be done before an agreement can be made.
