Motherwell’s Scottish Premiership starlet Jake Hastie appeared to be Rangers bound but Premier League outfit Crystal Palace haven’t given up.

Jake Hastie appears to be on his way to Rangers but that has not stopped Crystal Palace from expressing an interest, according to the Express.

A 19-year-old winger, Hastie has shone north of the border since returning to Motherwell in January following a loan spell at Alloa Athletic. He has scored five goals in nine Premiership games, winning the league’s Player of the Month award as a result.

It seemed that Rangers had won the race to sign arguably the most coveted player in Scottish football, with the Sun claiming on Friday that they were set to snap him up on a pre-contract agreement with Hastie’s Motherwell deal due to expire in the summer.

But Rangers cannot sit back and relax just yet.

The Express claims that Crystal Palace sent scouts to watch Hastie in action during Motherwell’s 3-0 derby win against Hamilton at the weekend, with the teenager on target once again.

It is claimed that Rangers are in pole position, but Palace can muscle ahead of Steven Gerrard’s side in the race if they make a formal offer for a winger who has been compared to Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale.

The Express states that Portsmouth are also keen, although it is unlikely that Hastie would move to Fratton Park.
