Pape Souare and Bakary Sako played just four Premier League games between them for Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace in 2018/19.

Pape Souare and Bakary Sako are set to leave Crystal Palace this summer with the Standard reporting that Roy Hodgson’s side are looking to trim the fat from a rather bloated squad.

Long-serving pair Julian Speroni and Jason Puncheon have already bid farewell to Selhurst Park after Palace comfortably avoided relegation to secure another season of Premier League football. But they are not alone in being shunted towards the exit door.

The Standard reports that Souare will be released when his contract expires next month with The Eagles unable to recoup any of the £3.5 million fee they paid for the Senegal international in January 2015.

Souare, who’s career was threatened by a serious car crash three years ago, made just four appearances in 2018/19. Wiw Sport reported last week that a return to France looks likely with the former Lille defender being spotted at Marseille’s training ground.

Alongside Souare, Sako also appears to have no future at the club. The powerful 31-year-old was released by Crystal Palace last summer but made a shock return to Selhurst Park in January after an ill-fated spell at West Brom.

Just four games later, however, history looks likely to repeat itself with Sako’s contract set to expire.
