Crystal Palace are interested in signing the exciting River Plate forward Rafael Santos Borre, according to ESPN Argentina (24 March, Futbol).

The 23-year-old Colombian international is currently plying his trade in Argentina and won the Copa Libertadores in December, helping River beat bitter rivals Boca Juniors in the two-legged final of the South American Champions League.

In total, Santos Borre scored seven times last season and could therefore be offered a route back into the European game.

The attacker spent two years at Atletico Madrid between 2015 and 2017 but never made an appearance under Diego Simeone while netting twice in 17 games on loan at La Liga rivals Villarreal.

The report claims that Crystal Palace have made an enquiry about Santos Borre’s availability and he will cost around £25 million thanks to a release clause in his contract.

This would see Santos Borre become the third most expensive signing in the club’s history behind the former Liverpool duo of Christian Benteke and Mamadou Sakho.

Palace could certainly do with some extra options in attack and it remains to be seen whether they will be able to sign Michy Batshuayi on a permanent basis from Chelsea.
