Report: Crystal Palace in talks with Kevin Theophile-Catherine

Kevin Theophile-Catherine could return to the Premier League from Ligue 1 outfit St Etienne with Crystal Palace keen.

Three years after leaving the English game for France, Kevin Theophile-Catherine has been lined up for a return to the Premier League this summer.

According to the Sun (15 April, page 61), Crystal Palace are on the lookout for a right-back and could make a move for the 28-year-old St Etienne defender in this summer’s transfer window.

Theophile-Catherine will be a free agent when his contract expires in a few months and looks likely to leave the Stade Geoffrey Guichard, having fallen out of favour since Mathieu Debuchy’s arrival, and subsequent renaissance, in January.

The Sun adds that the former France U21 international is keen to return to the Premier League having spent the 2013/14 season in the top flight with Cardiff City. He started 26 games under Malky Mackay and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Bluebirds ended their debut Premier League campaign with relegation.

And Palace could hand Theophile-Catherine his wish with the Sun reporting that Palace have already been in contact over a potential move.

It remains to be seen, however, whether a move to Selhurst Park will depend on Roy Hodgson’s side avoiding relegation to the Championship this season.

Theophile-Catherine is likely to be seen as a replacement for Dutch international Timothy Fosu-Mensah, who will return to parent club Manchester United this summer.
