A loan spell at Crystal Palace looked to be the making of Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

After years on the periphery of the Chelsea first-team, the powerful midfielder moved to Selhurst Park in the summer and wasted no time showing people why he is one of the most highly-rated young prospects in English football.

Loftus-Cheek starred in his first few months as a Palace player and was even rewarded with an England debut, producing a Man of the Match performance in a goalless draw with Germany at Wembley.

But according to the Guardian, an ankle injury suffered in the defeat to Arsenal after Christmas has Loftus-Cheek’s season, and possible participation in the World Cup, in doubt.

As such, Palace are unsure whether the 22-year-old will be able to resume his loan spell, and it appears that Roy Hodgson’s side are even now looking at potential replacements.

According to the Mail (live transfer blog, 9.17am) Palace are considering a deadline day move for Turkish international Ozan Tufan.

Turkey's Ozan Tufan celebrates after scoring a goal during the World Cup 2018 football qualification match between Turkey and Ukraine on October 6, 2016 at Konya arena stadium in Konya.

The 22-year-old Fenerbahce player, who has already won 31 caps for his country, is one of the most highly-rated performers in Turkish football. And, like Loftus-Cheek, Tufan is renowned for his dynamic forward bursts, piercing passing and impressive physicality.

Although the Mail suggests that Palace would prefer a loan to a permanent transfer, so it will be interesting to see whether Fenerbahce are willing to do a deal.

Palace have already signed one midfielder on loan this month, bringing in Erdal Rakip from SL Benfica.
