Report clarifies why Fulham’s Tom Cairney was spotted at West Ham game

Premier League side West Ham want to bring Tom Cairney to the London Stadium so it was very interesting to see the Fulham star at Stamford Bridge.

When Tom Cairney was pictured sitting behind David Moyes as West Ham United snatched a 1-1 draw away to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, the speculation was inevitable.

After all, the Fulham playmaker has been heavily linked with a move to West Ham of late with reports suggesting that Moyes travelled to Craven Cottage last Tuesday to watch the 27-year-old in action during the 2-0 win against Leeds United.

This comes after Sky Sports claimed in January that The Hammers had an £18 million bid rejected for the 2017 EFL Player of the Year.

But Moyes was quick to play down the rumours, claiming he had no idea his reported transfer target was sat just a few feet away.

And The Express has now aimed to clarify the situation further, reporting that Cairney was at Stamford Bridge in nothing other than a personal capacity and had made the short trip across West London with his Fulham team-mate Matt Smith.

Cairney even posted a picture of himself and Smith posing in front of the stadium before the game, stating; “Hopefully watch some total football today with the boy even if it is Chelsea.”

So it seems that rumours of Cairney’s impending move to West Ham are wide of the mark. Though that does not mean we should not expect another approach from The Hammers for a player whose Fulham future could just rest on whether they are promoted to the Premier League.
