Yerry Mina could be playing Premier League football for Liverpool next season after starting just two La Liga games for Barcelona.

Barcelona were forced to wait to sign Yerry Mina from Palmeiras. But, in the January transfer window, the coveted Colombian centre-back finally sealed a long-awaited move to the Camp Nou for a fee of around £11.5 million, as reported by Sport.

Mina’s Barca career hasn’t really taken off so far, however. He has made just three La Liga appearances in the last four months, two of those coming form the start, with Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen all ahead of him in the pecking order.

And, in claims made on Spanish sports programme El Chiringuito, it has already been decided that Mina will be playing for another club on loan next season. Specifically, Liverpool.

The 23-year-old has been tipped to leave Catalonia on a temporary deal for some time but, until now, Liverpool had not been mentioned as a potential destination.

But El Chiringuito believe that the signing of Mina has already been agreed and he will be aiming to continue his development at Anfield next season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side could certainly do with another centre-back. The £75 million signing of Virgil van Dijk in January has certainly shorn up the defence but the backline remains Liverpool’s Achilles heel with Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip never fully convincing.

Mina, despite his lack of opportunities at Barcelona, is one of the most promising defensive talents in South American football and has 11 caps for Colombia to his name already.
