Report: Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United future to become clear amid Sunderland links

Chris Wilder guided Sheffield United to the Championship so he would be a good bet to succeed in League One with Sunderland.

It is pretty clear why Chris Wilder would be a superb appointment for a Sunderland side planning for a daunting season in League One.

The current Sheffield United manager stormed to the third tier title in 2016/17 after all, guiding the Blades to the Championship after six years away while smashing through the 100-point barrier to boot.

So it should be no surprise to anyone that Sunderland’s prospective new owner Stuart Donald, has put Wilder high on his list of potential managerial candidates, according to talkSPORT host Jim White.

Donald knows Wilder well, having been an investor in the Oxford United side managed by the tough-talking 50-year-old between 2008 and 2014.

And, according to the Chronicle, the Black Cats could receive an answer about Wilder’s availability in the very near future.

The report points out that the boyhood Blades fan has frequently vented his frustration about the uncertainty of his transfer budget and has even hinted that his future might lie away from Brammal Lane.

The underlying issue appears to be a reported ongoing dispute between Sheffield United’s co-owners Kevin McCabe and Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

It is understood that the future of Wilder will become clear this week with McCabe and Al Saud – who have allegedly not met since the spat began – due to meet for talks.

And Sunderland fans up and down the land should be praying that they can take advantage of the uncertainty in the Steel City. Because Wilder appears every inch the right man for the job.
