Celtic paid £1.3million to sign Northern Ireland winger Hayes from Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen in the summer of 2017.
Celtic winger Jonny Hayes is set to seal an emotional return to Aberdeen after a breakthrough in negotiations, according to TEAMtalk.
A £1.3 million signing in 2017 (Express), Hayes has struggled to establish himself under Brendan Rodgers at Parkhead, thanks in part to a broken leg that kept him on the sidelines for much of his debut season in Glasgow.
But Hayes remains highly-regarded at Aberdeen. He scored 11 goals and produced a staggering 24 assists for The Dons in the 2016/17 season after all, earning a nomination for the SPFA Player of the Year award.
And, according to TEAMtalk, Aberdeen are closing in on a deal to bring Hayes back to Pittodrie before the end of the month.
Celtic are willing to let the 31-year-old go and it is understood that Derek McInnes’ side have reached a compromise with Hayes’ wages understood to be out of their price-range.
TEAMtalk adds that a number of sides from England’s second tier were interested in signing the Northern Ireland international this month but the lure of a return to Aberdeen could have proved too strong.
