Championship side Swansea City had held talks with Mulumbu but he is reportedly returning to the Scottish Premiership with Celtic instead.
This has come out of nowhere.
Youssouf Mulumbu was loosely linked with a move to Celtic in the spring. But he has been without a club since leaving Kilmarnock at the end of last season and there has been no whiff of any interest from Brendan Rodgers’ side. Until now.
The Daily Record has suddenly reported that Celtic are poised to sign the 31-year-old free agent before the transfer window shuts tomorrow.
The Sun had claimed on Wednesday that Swansea City were in talks to sign Mulumbu, but it is understood that the Scottish Premiership champions have beaten off interest from Graham Potter’s side.
The former West Brom and Norwich midfielder will allegedly sign a two-year deal at Parkhead.
If Mulumbu can replicate the kind of form he showed at Kilmarnock, he will be a terrific addition. The one-time PSG youngster was superb at Rugby Park and even scored the winner in a 1-0 victory against Celtic back in February.
He will add experience and tenacity to a Celtic midfield that has been weakened by the departure of Stuart Armstrong to Southampton. Mulumbu could also provide cover for captain Scott Brown and compensate for Celtic’s failure to sign John McGinn.
