Could Jorgensen be on his way to Scottish Premiership champions Celtic after being relegated from the Premier League with Huddersfield Town.
Celtic are interested in signing Huddersfield Town giant Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen this summer, according to the Daily Record – and he might just be the club’s best centre-back target yet.
The Scottish Premiership champions are in dire need of defensive reinforcements this summer. Jozo Simunovic and Kristoffer Ajer look set to stay but Neil Lennon’s back line has been severely damaged by the departures of Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic in the last few weeks.
So Celtic are looking high and wide for replacements.
The Daily Record claims that Toulouse’s Christopher Jullien is a target while the Sun has linked former Everton captain Phil Jagielka with a switch. Nantes’s Nathan Gassama is also an option, as reported by Goal.
But Jorgensen feels like the most ambitious, yet most sensible, option available. After two largely impressive years at Huddersfield, the Denmark international is clearly au fait with football on British shores and capable of handing the speed and physicality of the game north of the border.
That is more than can be said of Jullien, who’d be a big risk at around £10 million (Record). Jagielka, meanwhile, is well past his best while Gassama is surely too young to be considered an immediate Boyata replacement.
Jorgensen, who joined Huddersfield for £3.5 million in 2017 (BBC), is also a proven winner. He won ten trophies in two spells at Copenhagen, a record while stands him in good stead at perennial silverware chasers Celtic.
