Celtic outcast Cristian Gamboa wants to stay in Europe and has emerged as a target for Danish champions Copenhagen, according to the Scottish Sun.

The Costa Rican international is set to bring an end to three rather frustrating years in Glasgow when his contract expires next month.

There is almost no chance that Gamboa, a £1 million signing from West Brom in 2016 (the Herald), will be offered the chance to stay and fight for his place at Parkhead.

But, after winning three successive Scottish Premiership titles with Celtic, the Sun believes that Gamboa could be on his way to another club who have got used to dominating the domestic scene.

Copenhagen won the Danish league title in 2019, the twelfth time they have finished top of the table since the turn of the century, and they are keen to offer the 29-year-old a fresh start. Gamboa could even play Champions League football for the capital club next season.

This comes after Gamboa turned down the chance to return to his homeland, rejecting a switch to Costa Rican outfit Deportiva Alajuelense.
