For the second time this month, Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have reportedly failed in an attempt to sign John McGinn from Hibs.

Celtic are still no closer to signing Hibernian midfielder John McGinn despite making a second bid in the space of two weeks for the Scotland international.

The Scottish Sun claimed on June 2 that Celtic had offered £1.5 million for the 23-year-old; a bid that was rejected out of hand by Premiership rivals Hibs.

And according to Sky Sports (live blog, 12.35pm) the Hoops have now seen an improved offer worth around £2 million swatted aside, too.

Despite the fact McGinn has just one year left on his contract, Neil Lennon’s Hibernian are determined not to let their prize asset leave on the cheap, after already seeing fellow midfielder Dylan McGeouch depart for Sunderland on a free transfer.

The Daily Record claims that the Edinburgh side value McGinn at around £4 million. So Celtic will have to double their bid to sign the all-action midfielder.

McGinn is one of the most gifted midfielders in Scottish football and has even been tipped as a long-term replacement for Scott Brown both for Celtic and the national team.

Brown himself swapped Hibs for Celtic back in 2005 and has gone on to dominate the domestic scene ever since.
