Swansea City may struggle to hang onto Alfie Mawson with West Ham United bidding big, but the chances of Celtic bringing him to Parkhead look over.

With Swansea City bottom of the table and staring relegation in the face, the last thing Carlos Carvalhal needs is for the club to sell arguably his best player in the January transfer window.
But the Swans’ hopes of keeping centre-back Alfie Mawson seem to be under threat with a number of Premier League sides willing to pay big for the England Under-23 star.
The Sun stated on Sunday that West Ham United had offered £25 million for Mawson. Even that, however, will not be enough with Swansea, such is their want due to their need to stave off the spectre of relegation, demanding an eye-watering £40 million.

It almost goes without saying, then, that Celtic can pretty much bid farewell to any hopes of luring the former Barnsley youngster to Parkhead any time soon. Although, in reality, a deal always looked fanciful due to the financial discrepancy between English and Scottish football.
According to Wales Online, Celtic have previously shown interest in signing the highly-rated 23-year-old from Swansea along with Tottenham Hotspur.

It is no secret that the Scottish Premiership champions have been in the market for a centre-back and remain interested in enhancing their options despite the signing of German Marvin Compper from RB Leipzig.
Mawson, a defender with real aerial prowess blended with underrated technical abilities and a superb passing range, seems the perfect fit for Brendan Rodgers’ play-out-from-the-back system at Celtic.
But with Swansea demanding £40 million, he is now worth £34 million more than the fee Celtic paid for John Hartson in 2001 – the club’s current record signing. It is fair to say this one is a no-go.
