Jack Rodwell has asked to leave Championship strugglers Sunderland and Scottish Premiership giants Celtic have been keeping a close eye on his situation.

Sunderland need to get their high-earning flops off the wage bill this month if Chris Coleman is to have any money to spend on new signings.
Jack Rodwell is one player in particular that the Black Cats would be happy to see the back of. Fortunately, the Sunderland Echo reports that the one-time England international would be more than happy to bid farewell to the Stadium of Light this month.
And the report states that Celtic could be willing to offer Rodwell the chance to re-ignite a once promising career which has gone from bad to worse since that ill-fated £10 million to Wearside in 2014, as reported by the Guardian.

The Scottish champions have been monitoring the midfielder’s situation for some time now and were interested in signing him on loan during the summer. And the report points out that, if a move does come to fruition this month, Rodwell could find himself fighting for trophies and playing European football in the very near future.
The 26-year-old has played just two Championship games for Sunderland this season, amounting to 104 minutes, and would certainly be a risky signing for Celtic; particularly as he is understood to be on wages of around £70,000 a week.

The likelihood is that Rodwell would have to accept a substantial pay cut in order to make the move to Parkhead, but in reality there are very few clubs who would be willing to match the salary he is currently earning at the Stadium of Light.
