Portsmouth’s League One defender Whatmough could move north of the border with Scottish Premiership trio Rangers, Celtic and Aberdeen linked.

Celtic and Rangers are set to go head-to-head for the same highly-rated defender.
According to The Sun, Portsmouth’s Jack Whatmough is a target for the Old Firm duo with just six months remaining on his contract at Fratton Park.
The 22-year-old centre-back has been with the South Coast club since 2012 and has established himself in Kenny Jackett’s starting XI with Pompey currently top of the League One table.
But, with his contract running down, clubs in Scotland will be free to sign Whatmough on a cut-price deal thanks to a loophole in regulations which means they can avoid being forced to pay a potentially expensive tribunal fee for players under the age of 23.

The Sun adds that Aberdeen are also interested in taking Whatmough north of the border but Celtic and Rangers perhaps represent the biggest threat to Portsmouth’s hopes of keeping one of their key men.
The Glasgow giants have both been linked with a number of talented centre-backs in recent months with Steven Gerrard and Brendan Rodgers seemingly keen to enhance their back-line as they prepare to battle for the Scottish Premiership title.
