Sheffield United reportedly want Bordeaux’s Sankhare in the Premier League but Championship rivals Cardiff and Swansea City are big fans too.

Cardiff City are preparing a bid for Bordeaux midfielder Younousse Sankhare, according to TEAMtalk, as Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds look to beat Sheffield United and South Wales rivals Swansea City to his signature.

With just a month remaining in the window, Sheffield United’s transfer policy has become very clear. In short, Chris Wilder’s side are targeting exciting, hungry players from the Championship, signing Luke Freeman and Callum Robinson while targeting Ben Osborn, Oli McBurnie and Neal Maupay (the Star).

But it seems that they are willing to break from that rule to bring in Sankhare. After all, this 29-year-old Senegal international plays in France for Bordeaux rather than representing the likes of QPR or Brentford.

A former PSG youngster, the attacking midfielder scored a single goal and produced three assists in Ligue 1 last season.

And while Sheffield United are interested in adding him to their engine room, as are Swansea, TEAMtalk adds that Cardiff are in ‘pole position’ to sign a player who joined Bordeaux from Lille two years ago for £2.7 million.

This would be an impressive coup for Cardiff, given the variety of clubs who are keen to bring Sankhare across the channel. And his dribbling skills and eye for a pass could potentially fill the void left by the departure of last season’s loan star Victor Camarasa.
