Cardiff City are one of three Premier League teams who have been linked with Wesley; a talented Brazilian striker playing for Club Brugge in Belgium.

Cardiff City failed with an £18 million bid for Club Brugge forward Wesley, according to Belgian publication Het Nieuwsblad.

The 22-year-old Brazilian has been in top form this season, scoring 11 goals in all competitions and establishing himself as one of the most promising talents currently plying his trade in Belgium’s top flight.

HLN reported earlier in January that West Ham United and Newcastle were keen but Cardiff appear to be the club most determined to bring Wesley to the Premier League.

Neil Warnock’s side made a substantial bid of £18 million for the 6ft 3ins forward and, according to Nieuwsblad, they are still interested with just two days remaining in the January transfer window.

Unfortunately for the Bluebirds, Brugge are demanding £26 million – a fee that is understood to be out of Cardiff’s price-range.

With Newcastle set to spend most of their funds on Atlanta United’s Miguel Almiron and with West Ham seemingly looking at alternative targets, it seems likely that Wesley will be forced to spend the rest of the season in the Jupiler League.
