Swansea City have been replaced in the Premier League by South Welsh rivals Cardiff – and goalkeeper Fabianski could reportedly swap one for the other.
It has been a mixed season for the South Welsh sides.
While Swansea City’s seven year stay in the Premier League came to an end thanks to a late season collapse which saw Carlos Carvalhal’s side fail to win any of their last nine games, they have been replaced in the top flight by their bitter local rivals Cardiff City.
And, just to rub salt into the wounds, The Sun (20th May, page 67) is reporting that Cardiff are now planning an audacious bid to sign arguably Swansea’s star man.
It is understood that Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock wants a new goalkeeper as he aims to build a side capable of challenging in the Premier League and has his eyes set on a shock move for Lukas Fabianski.
The 33-year-old Pole has been one of the most impressive shot-stoppers in the Premier League in recent seasons, establishing himself during four years at the Liberty Stadium after a difficult spell at Arsenal.
But Fabianski would be doing his fans’ favourite status no good whatsoever if he attempted to make that short journey from Swansea to Cardiff this summer.
Fortunately for Swansea supporters, The Sun adds that this deal would be very difficult to pull off as the club would obviously have major reservations about selling such an important player to the neighbours from down the road.
The Guardian reported last week that the 43-time international was expected to leave this summer with West Ham, Newcastle and Crystal Palace keen. Fabianski, who has just a year left on his contract, would cost about £5 million.
