Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion face losing Matt Phillips in January with Premier League duo Cardiff City and Burnley reportedly interested.
With West Bromwich Albion fighting for an immediate return to the Premier League, the last thing they need right now is to lose one of their star players midway through the season.
According to The Mirror, Matt Phillips is a target for both Cardiff City and Burnley in the January transfer window.
Cardiff are understood to be targeting a right-sided player and Neil Warnock has turned his attention to the Scotland international due to fears that he could miss out on Liverpool’s Nathaniel Clyne. This suggests that Warnock perhaps sees Phillips as a right-wing back rather than a conventional wide-man.
Burnley, meanwhile, reportedly want Phillips to fill the void left by the injury to Aaron Lennon.
The former QPR and Blackpool winger, who moved to West Brom for £6 million two-and-a-half years ago, has been in terrific form for Darren Moore’s side this season, scoring five goals and setting up six more in all competitions.
According to The Mirror, however, West Brom are hoping to tie Phillips down to a longer contract in order to ward off interest from the two Premier League relegation battlers.
