Scott Carson has lost his place at Championship play-off hopefuls Derby County but will he return to the Premier League with Burnley?
Burnley are interested in signing out-of-favour Derby County goalkeeper Scott Carson this summer, according to the Sun (13 May, page 59).
The Clarets already have three England international shot-stoppers on their books in Tom Heaton, Nick Pope and Joe Hart but at least one of those is expected to leave Turf Moor in the summer. Hart, who hasn’t played a Premier League game since a 5-1 home defeat to Everton on Boxing Day, is a target for newly promoted Norwich City, according to the Sun.
And the one-time Manchester City talisman could apparently be replaced in Lancashire by Carson.
The former Liverpool and Aston Villa glovesman has made 30 Championship appearances for Derby this season but his most recent appearance came during a 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday in March.
Carson hasn’t featured in any of Derby’s last 11 games with Kelle Roos now established as the club’s number one.
And it remains to be seen whether the 33-year-old, who has earned four caps for the England national team, would be willing to sit on the bench at Burnley with Heaton clearly Sean Dyche’s first choice between the sticks.
