Danny Drinkwater could reportedly join Burnley after failing to make a single Premier League appearance for Chelsea last season.
Burnley have made an approach to sign £30 million forgotten man Danny Drinkwater on loan from Premier League giants Chelsea, as reported by the Mail.
Now, no one really expected Drinkwater to become one of the first names on the Chelsea team-sheet but his two-year spell at Stamford Bridge has been even more underwhelming than we dared to fear.
The England international made just one appearance for the Blues in the entirety of the 2018/19 season and that came in August’s Community Shield defeat to Manchester City.
As a result, Chelsea are hoping to part with a player they paid £30 million for in the summer of 2017 and he’s not short of offers. The Mail claims that Burnley want to sign Drinkwater on loan.
Goal, meanwhile, report that Norwich City and Brighton are keen too, though the 29-year-old’s £100,000-a-week wages represent a substantial problem.
But surely everyone would agree that Drinkwater needs a fresh start away from West London.
It is easy to forget that he was a key part of that Leicester City team who stunned the world by lifting the Premier League title in 2016, forming a ferocious midfield partnership alongside none other than N’Golo Kante.
A tenacious footballer with a superb range of passing, Drinkwater could be a revelation at Burnley, Brighton or Norwich and he would certainly leave Stamford Bridge with a point to prove.
