Burnley are reportedly hoping to take advantage of Swansea City’s Premier League relegation with Sam Clucas and Alfie Mawson linked with Turf Moor.

Alfie Mawson has been linked with a whole host of Premier League sides since Swansea City were relegated from the top flight in May.

West Ham, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the talented centre-back while the Mail (11.49am) claimed in June that Wolves were preparing a bid. Mawson is understood to be valued at around £20 million.

So reports that Burnley have suddenly joined the race suggest that Sean Dyche’s side will have to be ready to break their transfer record if they want to bring Mawson to Turf Moor.

The Burnley Express claims that the Clarets have made enquiries about a number of Swansea players and have been heavily linked with the £12 million-rated midfielder Sam Clucas in recent days. Dyche wanted to sign the versatile Clucas last summer but he moved to South Wales from Hull City instead.

And it is believed that Mawson is the other name on their wish list.

Burnley are lacking depth at centre-half with no real back up for either Ben Mee or James Tarkowski so new signings are a must, particularly with the Lancashire side aiming to balance Premier League football with European commitments in 2018/19.

Mawson, a commanding, powerful yet ball-playing defender, was called up by England in the spring but missed out on a place in the World Cup squad.
