Report: Bruno Alves undergoes Parma training session as Rangers exit nears

Rangers defender Bruno Alves is expected to seal his departure from Ibrox with a return to Serie A, via Parma, reportedly close to completion.

Bruno Alves’ Rangers exit appears to have moved a step closer.

Gianluca Di Marzio broke the news on Wednesday that the 36-year-old centre-back was set to leave Ibrox after just one season in Scottish football. And it is understood that a return to Italy is on the cards for the former Cagliari defender, who has already agreed a deal to sign for Parma.

According to the Daily Record (live blog, 12.31pm) Alves has now been spotted at Parma’s training ground has he edges ever nearer to signing for the former UEFA Cup winners.

Parma were demoted to the fourth tier of Italian football in 2015 after going bankrupt but, in a style not too dissimilar to Rangers themselves, have risen through the divisions in rapid fashion, earning promotion three years in a row to seal their return to Serie A.

And their squad looks set to be boosted by the arrival of the experienced Alves, a proven winner who has lifted league titles in Portugal, Turkey and Russia, not to mention being crowned a European champion in 2016.

The Daily Record adds that his exit will free up plenty of funds for Rangers. It is understood that the 97-capped veteran was earning over £20,000 a week in Glasgow.
