George Boyd, Kieren Westwood and Sam Hutchinson were expected to leave Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday under Jos Luhukay.
It is a new start at Sheffield Wednesday with Steve Bruce being announced as the club’s new manager – and this is particularly pertinent for three players who found themselves frozen out during the bitter end of the Jos Luhukay regime.
Keiren Westwood, George Boyd and Sam Hutchinson all found themselves out of favour under the Dutchman but, according to The Sun (4 January page 57) Bruce is set to offer all three a clean slate and wants them to stay during the January transfer window.
And if the former Aston Villa boss can get the best out of the experienced trio, he will have a handful of players who are capable of pulling up trees at Championship level.
Goalkeeper Westwood, who The Mirror (11 December, page 53) claimed was due to sign for Leeds United on a free transfer in January, has returned to the first-team under caretaker boss Lee Bullen of late.
Former Scotland international Boyd, meanwhile, had played just 11 minutes of Championship football all season under Luhukay but has featured in all four games with Bullen in the dugout.
As has Hutchinson, the one-time Chelsea youngster who is a real fans favourite at Hillsborough.
