Aston Villa look set to strengthen their squad before the window shuts with Wigan Athletic’s Championship star Nick Powell reportedly a key target

A transfer window that started in nightmare fashion for Aston Villa could be about to have a dream ending.
Villa appear to be closing in on a number of deals with the likes of Joe Bryan and John McGinn heavily tipped to arrive before the window shuts. And it seems that the Midland giants are pressing ahead with their interest in Nick Powell, too.
The Sun reported last week that Aston Villa had made contact with Wigan Athletic about signing the player who inspired them to the League One title last season.
And new reports from TEAMtalk on Tuesday are stating that manager Steve Bruce has convinced the club’s new owners to go all-out for Powell this week. The former Sunderland manager is a big fan of the 24-year-old and believes he can sign him for a fee of £5 million.

While Wigan are desperate to keep their star man, they could be forced to admit defeat if Villa make a bid in the region of £5 million. Bruce, then, must be loving working with the club’s new owners, Naseef Sawiris and Wes Edens, who are providing much needed funds for new additions.
One-time Manchester United starlet Powell scored 15 goals and set up eight more last season. He also has one to his name already in 2018/19, scoring in the 3-2 opening day win against Sheffield Wednesday.
