Report: Brighton hope to conclude £4m deal for Fulham’s David Button

David Button could leave Fulham despite their promotion to the Premier League with Brighton and Hove Albion reportedly interested.

Despite the impressive performances of Matt Ryan last season, Chris Hughton appears hopeful of bringing a new goalkeeper to Brighton and Hove Albion this summer.

And the Sun states that Hughton is hoping to agree a £4 million deal to sign David Button from newly promoted Premier League side Fulham before the end of the week.

The report suggests that the Seagulls manager has lost faith in Tim Krul, whose six appearances for Brighton last season all came in cup competitions. Meanwhile, highly-rated youngster Christian Walton is set for another loan spell at Wigan Athletic after helping them win the League One title and reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

So Button would arrive as the likely number two to Ryan should he make the switch from Craven Cottage to the Amex.

The one-time Tottenham Hotspur talent started 20 Championship games last season but lost his place after the turn of the year to Marcus Bettinelli, who shone between the sticks as Fulham were eventually promoted via the play-offs.

So, the Sun adds, Button could be enticed by the prospect of a fresh start as he aims to play Premier League football for the first time in his career.

The 29-year-old has been one of the Championship’s standout goalkeepers in recent seasons, impressing particularly during a two-season stint at Brentford in which he played every single minute for the Bees between 2014 and 2016.

Button’s exit would come after Ryan Fredericks, the flying right-back who assisted nine goals last season, joined West Ham on a free.
