Steven Gerrard has reportedly launched an ambitious attempt to reunite with Premier League marksman Jermain Defoe at Rangers this summer.

Steven Gerrard is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

You cannot question Steven Gerrard’s ambition. Since taking over at Rangers, the 37-year-old has been linked with a number of marquee summer signings including Martin Skrtel, Lucas Leiva and Dominic Solanke.

And, according to the Scottish Sun, his former England teammate Jermain Defoe is also on an increasingly extensive list of targets.

The report stated that Defoe is only 12 months into a three-year, £65,000 a week deal at Bournemouth but suggested that manager Eddie Howe could be willing to let the veteran striker leave on loan.

Defoe might be 35 and may have scored just four Premier League goals last season, but he remains a natural-born goal-scorer who would surely find the net for fun north of the border.

According to the Daily Record, however, one of the biggest signings in recent Scottish football history looks very unlikely.

Howe is understood to be confident that Defoe is happy and settled on the south coast. Bournemouth believe the former Tottenham and Portsmouth star, who only signed on a free from Sunderland last summer, will stay put.

Maybe this is why Rangers appear to have turned their attention towards landing Liverpool’s Welsh wonder-kid Ben Woodburn on loan, as reported by the Express.
