Wolverhampton Wanderers appear to have set their sights on a player who could add depth in two positions – left-back and centre-midfield.

Though with a deal for Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko still up in the air, it seems that Nuno Espirito Santo is scouring the market for alternatives – and has turned to Swansea City’s versatile performer Sam Clucas.

Sky Sports (live blog, 9.32am) reported that Wolves are keen to sign Clucas before the Thursday transfer deadline with a formal approach expected to be made today. It is unsure how much Wolves would be willing to pay but he won’t come cheap just a year after he joined Swansea from Hull for £15 million, according to Wales Online.

In a potential boost, however, the Lincoln-born 27-year-old is keen on a move back up north this summer after one season in South Wales, say Wales Online. And this gives the Midland-based Wolves hope of securing a deal for the former Hull, Mansfield and Chesterfield player.

Clucas would not be the most high profile or ambitious signing Wolves have made this summer but he would offer versatility bring depth to the squad. After all, you need more than 11 players to thrive in the Premier League.
