Glasgow Rangers appear set to sell Wes Foderingham with Championship newcomers Blackburn Rovers reportedly keen on the goalkeeper.
Wes Foderingham had been the Rangers number one for the last three seasons but no more.
The return of Ibrox hero Allan McGregor on a free transfer from Hull City has relegated Foderingham to the bench. And it has been reported on transfer deadline day that the goalkeeper could be set for a late departure.
The Express (9 August, page 54) reports that Blackburn Rovers are preparing a move for Foderingham. And Steven Gerrard will allegedly listen to offers for the 27-year-old, who has not featured in any of the new manager’s five competitive games in charge so far.
Blackburn returned to the Championship in May after finishing behind Wigan Athletic in League One, and the 22-year-old David Raya has started the season as Tony Mowbray’s number one.
But he looked suspect in the opening day draw with Ipswich Town, conceding a last-minute equaliser via a misjudged floated pass from Tractor Boy’s debutantant Tayo Edun.
So Foderingham could perhaps be seen as a safer pair of hands, although he has a reputation for making mistakes among some sections of the Rangers support.
Jak Alnwick had also been linked with a move away from Ibrox on deadline day, but it seems very unlikely that Gerrard will let both of his back-up ‘keepers leave.
