Two Premier League clubs, Newcastle United and West Ham, are reportedly interested in signing Aaron Mooy from David Wagner’s Huddersfield Town

Rafa Benitez knows first-hand just how good Aaron Mooy can be when he is on form.

The Australian playmaker ran the show and scored a gorgeous winner as Huddersfield Town beat Benitez’s Newcastle side 1-0 in August 2017 – though it seems that Mooy had first caught the Spaniard’s eye during The Magpies’ Championship winning campaign the season earlier.

That is according to Aussie publication The World Game anyway. They believe that Newcastle, along with another Premier League club in West Ham United, are both interested in signing the 27-year-old former Manchester City midfielder.

The report states that Benitez has been tracking Mooy for some time now. And, if it wasn’t for the tight financial constraints placed upon the club by owner Mike Ashley, the World Game believe that Mooy could already be a Newcastle player.

It is understood that the former Real Madrid and Liverpool manager is ‘lobbying hard’ to bring in the pass-master. Though with Huddersfield counterpart David Wagner desperate to keep him and Mooy’s price-tag set at £18 million, he could prove to be out of Newcastle’s price range.

Whether the same can be said for West Ham, however, remains to be seen. The Hammers have spent almost £90 million on signings this summer but do they have a chunk of cash left over for Mooy?
