Report: Benik Afobe has told teammates he wants to stay at Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers have won the Championship and will be a Premier League team next season and Bournemouth loanee Afobe wants to play a part.

Benik Afobe’s return to Wolverhampton Wanderers could hardly have gone better.

The striker joined Nuno Espirito Santo’s side on loan in the January transfer window after two rather miserable years at Bournemouth, who he joined from Wolves for a fee of £10 million in the winter of 2016, as reported by the Telegraph.

But while Afobe struggled to find the net on the south coast, he has not had the same problem in the Black Country. The former Arsenal youngster has five goals in five starts, including one in the 2-0 win against Birmingham City on Sunday after Wolves’ promotion back to the Premier League had been confirmed earlier that weekend.

And, perhaps unsurprisingly, Afobe has no interest in leaving Wolves for a second time with the Midlands giants in the midst of one of the most exciting and intriguing projects that English football has seen for some time.

The Birmingham Mail claims Afobe has already told his Wolves teammates that he wants to make his loan move from Bournemouth permanent this summer; a report backed up by right-wing-back Matt Doherty.

“He would love to come permanently next summer,” the Irishman said of the 25-year-old.

Wolves’ decision might not be so clear cut, however.

Afobe managed just six Premier League goals in 48 games for Bournemouth in the top flight. And Wolves, backed as they are by their Chinese billionaire investors, can afford more gifted centre-forwards this summer.
