Out-of-favour Matt Mills could be offered a route out of Nottingham Forest, with Championship rivals Barnsley looking to replace Hull City target MacDonald.
It is fair to say Matt Mills is not much of a terrace favourite at Nottingham Forest.
Only bottom of the table Rotherham United, who set records for all the wrong reasons, conceded more goals in the Championship last season than Forest and they are not doing a whole lot better this time around.
Forest currently have the fifth worst defensive record in the top flight and 31-year-old Mills, despite playing just 13 league games in 2017/18, is frequently the subject of criticism on social media from the City Ground faithful.
Because it is understood that Barnsley are keen to sign the former Bolton Wanderers man as a potential replacement for out-of-favour skipper Angus MacDonald, who is said to be on the radar of Hull City.
MacDonald was a man in demand over the summer after a fine first season at Oakwell, but he has struggled in recent months and has not even featured since late November, with an iron deficiency keeping him on the sidelines.
But Hull are willing to take a chance on MacDonald after failing to prise Scott McKenna from Aberdeen, leaving Barnsley to pursue a deal for Mills.
Mills has already fallen down the pecking order at Forest and, with Record stating that Tobias Figueiredo is set to join from Sporting Lisbon on loan with a compulsory purchase option of £2 million, it appears a move away would be for the best.
