Axel Tuanzebe’s loan spell from Manchester United at Championship giants Aston Villa has been damaged by a hamstring injury so far
Axel Tuanzebe has not really had the impact he would have hoped for when joining Aston Villa on loan from Manchester United during the January transfer window.
The 20-year-old defender has made just three Championship appearances under Steve Bruce so far and hasn’t featured since the 1-1 home draw with Preston North End over a month ago.
And, according to the Birmingham Mail, Bruce has given Tuanzebe a long weekend off over the international break in order to recuperate from a hamstring injury and return to full-fitness ahead of what is going to be a gruelling end to the season.
But even if the Man United prospect is not fit enough to showcase his considerable potential between now and the end of the season, the Birmingham Mail adds that he could still be offered a fresh start by Villa in the following campaign.
It is understood that Aston Villa would be interested in signing Tuanzebe on loan again for 2018/19, although this depends on whether or not United manager Jose Mourinho, who is a big fan of the England U21 ace, is ready to promote him to his first-team squad.
When fit, Tuanzebe is an athletic and adaptable defender, capable of playing at right-back, centre-half or even defensive midfield if required.
He has all the skills to be a valuable member of Bruce’s squad.
