Kasimpasa winger Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Hassan could be Premier League newcomers Aston Villa’s latest new signing.

Aston Villa have scouted Egyptian winger Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Hassan not once, not twice, but thrice during the ongoing African Cup of Nations, according to the Mirror (11 July, page 63).
Villa’s spending spree is showing no signs of coming to an end – but there’s little reason to believe that they are ‘doing a Fulham’ so far.
With Ezri Konsa set to swap Brentford for the Midlands in a £12 million deal, Dean Smith’s side are set to break the £80 million barrier. But unlike the Cottagers, who brought in a whole host of imports from abroad, Villa have instead targeted former loanees and players proven in the English game.
Trezeguet, however, would represent a departure from that transfer policy – and a substantial risk.
Though Aston Villa have certainly done their homework. The BBC reported recently that manager Smith and sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch travelled to Cairo to watch the Kasimpasa winger in the flesh.

And the Mirror backs up these claims, stating that the Premier League newcomers have watched Trezeguet in action three times in the last four weeks to get a better idea of whether he is worth the £10 million outlay.
Trezeguet was by far Egypt’s star performer at AFCON, even outshining Mo Salah, so he has surely left a positive impression on both Smith and Pitarch however.
