Raf Crommentuijn has reportedly made an excellent impression during a trial at Championship giants Aston Villa.
Aston Villa have one of the most prosperous academies in English football and their youth ranks could soon be bolstered by the signing of a highly-rated Dutch goalkeeper.
Sportclub Susteren have confirmed on their official website that the 16-year-old Raf Crommentuijn enjoyed a trial with Aston Villa last week and he could hardly have made a better impression.
The teenage shot-stopper saved a penalty in a 4-2 win against Leicester City for the Under 16 side and was also given a chance to train with Steve Bruce’s first-team. It seems that Villa like the look of Crommentuijn.
And, in a Tweet posted by SC Susteren this week, they have confirmed that Crommentuijn will return to the Midlands this week and is expected to be given another chance to shine in an U16 clash with Fulham on Saturday.
Susteren, however, do not appear too disheartened by the prospect of losing the one time Roda JC prospect. Updates posted on the club’s website show just how supportive they are of Crommentuijn getting his big break in English football, and it will be seen as a job well done for their academy staff should the goalkeeper earn himself a contract with the Championship giants.
Crommentuijn will be in good company at Villa, who already have a number of promising young goalkeepers on their books, including the 19-year-old Swede Viktor Johansson.
