An intriguing transfer rumour emerged at the weekend with Aston Villa at the centre of it.

According to the Irish Independent, Villa are interested in signing the industrious central midfielder Harry Arter, despite the fact that he is currently on loan at Cardiff City from Bournemouth.

It was claimed that the Cherries could re-call the 29-year-old midway through his spell in South Wales in order to sell him on. Watford were also reportedly interested with Abdoulaye Doucoure’s future at Vicarage Road uncertain.

And, on Monday, Wales Online has shed more light on the situation.

The report that Villa would have to pay upwards of £10 million to sign Arter, a player whose boundless energy, combative style and thrusting distribution could make him a good fit for a Dean Smith side.

Whether Villa, who still face potential problems with Financial Fair Play, could afford such a fee remains to be seen.

But, Wales Online add, there is no re-call clause in Arter’s contract, meaning Cardiff are confident of keeping hold of the Republic of Ireland international until the end of the season.

This is further good news for Neil Warnock after the club-record signing of Emiliano Sala was finally confirmed on Saturday.
