Premier League Burnley signed defender Gibson from Middlesbrough in the summer and he could return to the Championship with Aston Villa.
Ben Gibson has been a major disappointment at Burnley and Sky Sports reports that Aston Villa have offered him a route out of his Turf Moor nightmare.
The Clarets paid a hefty £12 million to sign Gibson from Middlesbrough last summer, with the 26-year-old tipped to impress under Sean Dyche in Lancashire.
The commanding centre-half shone during his previous spell in the Premier League during the 2016/17 season, standing out in a struggling Boro side and even earning a call-up for the England national team.
But Gibson’s spell at Burnley has been disastrous. He has made just one top flight appearance, although that is partly down to a long-running hernia problem.
As a result, Sky reports that Aston Villa have made a bid to sign the Nunthorpe-born defender on loan for the rest of the season with the option to sign him permanently in the summer.
It remains to be seen how much Villa would be willing to pay, though surely Burnley want to recoup as much of their £12 million investment as possible.
Dean Smith has already signed one centre-back this month in Kortney Hause and are in talks to sign Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings, according to the Mail.
