Newcastle United want to sell Jack Colback and two Championship sides are expressing an interest – Aston Villa and Leeds United.

Both Aston Villa and Leeds United have no shortage of options in central midfield. But it seems that managers Steve Bruce and Thomas Christiansen are keen to enhance their options this month anyway.

The Yorkshire Post stated on Tuesday that Villa and Leeds are among the teams interested in signing Middlesbrough’s out-of-favour Adam Clayton.

And now The Chronicle adds that there could be a battle for another seldom-seen midfielder who looks certain to leave the North East this summer.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Newcastle are desperate to get £40,000-a-week Jack Colback off the clubs books this month with the 27-year-old completely frozen out under Rafa Benitez.

And while Leeds’ interest has been known for some time, with the Chronicle stating that they watched him in action for Newcastle’s second string back in November, the same paper now credits Aston Villa with an interest.

The Midland giants were tipped to make a move for Colback in August but Bruce, who handed the midfielder his senior debut as a youngster at Sunderland, rejected any notion that he could be set for a reunion at Aston Villa, as reported by the Birmingham Mail.
