Lewis Grabban’s fine Championship form for Aston Villa has reportedly encouraged interest from Nottingham Forest.

Nottingham Forest have lacked a reliable source of goals all season, so their alleged interest in signing Lewis Grabban this summer makes perfect sense.

According to the Sun (13 May, page 63), Forest manager Aitor Karanka is weighing up a move for the 30-year-old striker, who Bournemouth value at around £5 million.

He has scored 20 Championship goals this season on loan at Sunderland and Aston Villa so, if Forest are to push for promotion in 2018/19, Grabban is the kind of proven goal-scorer who would make a major difference at the City Ground.

But the East Midland giants are unlikely to have it all their own way.

Because the Birmingham Mail reports that Aston Villa are keen to sign the former Norwich City sriker on a permanent basis this summer, should Steve Bruce’s side seal a return to the Premier League that is.

After beating Middlesbrough 1-0 in the play-off semi final first leg at the Riverside, Villa are potentially 180 minutes from the top flight.

And the report states that Bruce has been very impressed with Grabban’s work rate, hold-up play and ability to find the back of the net. He scored eight times in 11 starts since moving to Villa in January.

Should Villa return to the big time, £5 million will hardly make a dent in the massive fortune of owner Tony Xia.
