Could Marcos Rojo really leave Premier League powerhouses Manchester United to sign for Aston Villa on transfer deadline day?
Everton will face competition for the signature of Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo with Aston Villa also showing an interest in the £25 million-rated Argentine, according to the Sun (live blog, 9.20am).
You would have thought that Aston Villa’s priority would be a striker and a striker alone on deadline day. Their attempts to sign yet another centre-back will certainly raise eyebrows.
After all, Kortney Hause, Ezri Konsa, Tyrone Mings and Bjorn Engels have all been snapped up this summer alone, and that’s without mentioning James Chester. So you have to wonder whether Aston Villa perhaps see the versatile Rojo as an option at left-back instead.
He can certainly thrive on the flank. The former Sporting Lisbon and Spartak Moscow man made his name at the 2014 World Cup in a wide role as Argentina reached the final after all.
The Sun claims that Manchester United are willing to sell a player who has struggled to impress in five years at Old Trafford after the arrival of Harry Maguire, although asking for £25 million is perhaps a little rich given Rojo’s struggles with form and fitness at the Theatre of Dreams.
