Former West Ham defender James Collins played for Aston Villa between 2009 and 2012 and could reportedly return to the Championship club.
John Terry is not the only experienced centre-back without a club right now. There is also James Collins and Robert Huth, who were both released this summer after long spells at West Ham United and Leicester City respectively.
So there are options out there as Steve Bruce looks to bring in a man capable of shoring up a defence that conceded four times against Sheffield United on Saturday.
The Sun claimed that Bruce was hoping to convince Villa’s owners to bring Terry back to the club he captained to the Championship play-off final last season.
But the Birmingham Mail is reporting that the former England captain isn’t the only man being considered by the struggling Midland giants.
The report claims that Collins has been discussed too, although Villa are yet to get in touch about offering him a contract. The former Wales international, two years younger than Terry at 35, spent three years at Aston Villa between 2009 and 2012, making 108 appearances and reaching the 2010 League Cup final.
Collins also featured 13 times in the Premier League for West Ham last season before he was informed by email that his contract would not be extended, as reported by The Sun.
Huth, meanwhile, is also available. Villa were linked with the giant German earlier in the summer but the Birmingham Mail claims that he hasn’t been discussed for a number of months.
