Aston Villa reportedly want a striker but would Dijon’s Ligue 1 ace Julio Tavares cut the mustard in English football?
With just hours left in the transfer window, it seems that Steve Bruce has made a new striker his top priority.
The Birmingham Mail reported this week that Aston Villa would love to sign Tammy Abraham on loan from Chelsea, although the two-time England international is more likely to join another Premier League club instead.
That is why Villa have allegedly identified Manchester City’s 19-year-old Lukas Nmecha as an alternative. The teenager, who scored 15 goals in 11 Premier League 2 games last season, was in the director’s box as the Villans beat Hull City 3-1 on Monday.
But the Mail (live blog, 10.27pm) is reporting that Aston Villa are also looking at more experienced options, too. The 29-year-old Dijon striker Julio Tavares is understood to be on Bruce’s radar after netting an impressive 12 Ligue 1 goals last season.
The Mail adds that Bruce is weighing up a move for Tavares, who could move for £2.5 million; although the Cape Verde international does have a number of other suitors.
Quick and powerful, Tavares could prove to be a good fit for English football and would provide competition for the inconsistent Jonathan Kodjia, Scott Hogan and Keinan Davis in attack.
