Millwall are driving a hard bargain with George Saville and reportedly want Ashley Fletcher from Championship leaders Boro.
You can expect a busy end to the transfer window at Middlesbrough. Tony Pulis is aiming to add a couple more faces to his squad before Friday’s deadline and TEAMtalk reports that Boro are confident of signing midfielders Jason Puncheon and George Saville from Crystal Palace and Millwall respectively.
A deal for the former is likely to be quite straightforward, given that Palace manager Roy Hodgson will not stand in Puncheon’s way of regular first-team football.
Saville, however, could be a little more complex. Millwall will drive a hard bargain as they aim to secure the best possible deal for a player who has been a revelation at the New Den since his £350,000 move from Wolves last summer.
TEAMtalk report that Saville would move to Boro on loan with a view to a permanent switch in January. But Millwall have taken an interest in a few players who could move the other way as part of a potential exchange deal.
One of those is Middlesbrough’s £6 million striker Ashley Fletcher.
The 22-year-old moved to the Riverside from West Ham in 2016 and has struggled to make an impact since, spending the second half of last season on loan at Sunderland. Since returning, he has made just four substitute appearances in the Championship, although he did score twice in the EFL Cup win against Notts County recently.
It seems that Fletcher is well down the pecking order and Saville could be a more useful member of Pulis’s squad.
