North London rivals Arsenal and Spurs are both being linked with Croatia’s World Cup star Ante Rebic – is the Frankfurt winger moving to the Premier League?
Tottenham Hotspur lodged a £5 million bid for a young Hajduk Split winger by the name of Ante Rebic back in 2013, according to The Mail. And Spurs must be wishing that they had got the deal over the line back then.
Because, five years on, Rebic is once again on Tottenham’s radar. Though he will now cost closer to £50 million than £5 million.
Sport Bild claimed in late June that Mauricio Pochettino’s side had expressed an interest in the Eintracht Frankfurt winger after a fine season in Germany. Rebic scored nine goals last season as Frankfurt qualified for the Europa League and even netted twice in the stunning DFB Pokal final win against the usually unstoppable force of Bayern Munich.
One-time Leipzig ace Rebic has since shone in the World Cup as Croatia stormed to the semi-finals, grabbing one of the goals of the tournament against Argentina. And Bild claims that Tottenham are now far from the only Premier League side interested in the powerhouse winger.
Manchester United and local rivals Arsenal are also interested while Bild add that his performances in the World Cup have raised his price-tag to around £44 million. Bayern are also understood to be interested and Croatia’s assistant coach Ivica Olic, formerly a striker at the Allianz Arena, has publically pointed out that Rebic would be a perfect signing for the Bavarian giants.
Rebic’s former Frankfurt coach, Niko Kovac, is the new manager of Bayern Munich.
